Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 23, 2026
1. Introduction
Mono ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our mobile application and related services.
2. Local-First Data Storage
Mono is a local-first application. By default, all your personal data is stored exclusively on your device using a local SQLite database. This includes:
- Habits and habit check-ins
- Goals and milestone progress
- Journal entries (mood, gratitude, reflections)
- Streak and statistics data
- Achievement and level progress
- App preferences and settings
When data is stored locally, we have no access to it and cannot retrieve, view, or modify your information.
3. Cloud Sync (Optional)
If you enable Cloud Sync (available to subscribers), your data will be encrypted and stored on our secure servers to enable synchronization across your devices. When using Cloud Sync:
- Your data is encrypted during transmission and at rest
- We store a device identifier to manage sync across your devices
- Sync timestamps are recorded to ensure data consistency
- You maintain full ownership of your data at all times
On iOS devices, you may also use iCloud Sync, which stores your data in your personal iCloud account. Apple's privacy policy governs data stored in iCloud.
4. Account Information
Mono does not require you to create an account to use the app. If you choose to subscribe to premium features, your subscription is managed through the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android). We receive limited information about your subscription status but do not have access to your payment details.
5. Data We Collect
5.1 Information You Provide
- Profile Information: Optional display name and avatar for personalization
- Content: Habits, goals, journal entries, and related data you create (stored locally by default)
5.2 Automatically Collected Information
- Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and app version for compatibility and support
- Usage Analytics: Anonymous, aggregated statistics about feature usage to improve the app (no personal content is included)
- Crash Reports: Anonymous crash data to help us fix bugs and improve stability
6. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and maintain the Mono app
- Enable Cloud Sync functionality if you opt in
- Process and manage your subscription
- Improve our app through anonymous usage analytics
- Fix bugs and improve app stability
- Respond to your support requests
7. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share limited information with:
- Service Providers: Third-party services that help us operate our app (e.g., cloud hosting, analytics), who are bound by confidentiality obligations
- Legal Requirements: When required by law or to protect our rights
8. Data Retention
Local data remains on your device until you delete the app or clear app data. If you use Cloud Sync, your synced data is retained on our servers until you delete your data or request deletion. Subscription records may be retained as required for legal and accounting purposes.
9. Data Export and Deletion
You can export your data at any time in JSON, CSV, or Markdown format through the app's settings. You can delete all your local data by uninstalling the app or using the in-app data deletion option. To delete Cloud Sync data, you can use the in-app option or contact us directly.
10. Children's Privacy
Mono is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us so we can promptly delete it.
11. Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information. Local data benefits from your device's built-in security. Cloud Sync data is encrypted in transit and at rest. However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy in the app and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
13. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access, correct, delete, or export your data. Since Mono is local-first, you have direct control over most of your data on your device. For Cloud Sync data or other requests, please contact us.
